Westbury will play host to its first soap box derby next year, after Westbury Town Council agreed to support the event this week.
Based at the iconic Westbury White Horse, the event will provide excitement for the whole community, and has the potential to attract visitors to the town from around the region. As well as this boost to the local economy the event aims to work with local schools and businesses to engage with young people and encourage an interest in engineering and other relevant subjects.
Ryan Childs, events manager at the town council said, “The White Horse Soap Box Derby will be a regional event bringing significant social, educational and economic stimulation to the area.
“We have got a couple of companies already interested that are willing to go into schools and run workshops and professionally engaging children in potential careers. This then follows on to the actual soapbox event in 2021.
“The main thing is that the event, first and foremost, is still at the beginning stages, we will now have to work out logistics, get companies on board, speak to schools about their involvement and hope to see the event go forward. But we are super confident that everyone will get on board and bring an upward move to the town and have a regional event to be proud of.”
