Carers Rights Day/Health Check

17th November 2021, 10:29am | By simone clarke | Event Date : 20211125

A carer is someone who provides support to family or friends who could not manage without this help. This could be caring for a relative, partner or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or substance misuse problems. All the care they are given is unpaid.

Taking on a caring role can mean facing a life of poverty, isolation, frustration, ill health, and depression. Many carers go unidentified until many years into their caring role and the majority struggle alone unaware that help is available to them. Families affected by illness or disability are facing tough times at the moment and it has never been more important to show them support.

Whether you are a new carer or have been caring for someone for a while, we believe that it’s important that you understand your rights and are able to access the support that is available to you as soon as you need it. Many people are taking on more caring responsibilities for their relatives and friends who are disabled, ill or older and who need support. Each year, Carers Rights Day helps us:

· ensure carers are aware of their rights

· let carers know where to get help and support

· raise awareness of the needs of carers.

Here at the White Horse Health Centre, we would like to give the opportunity for our carers to be able to talk about their experiences with others, gain support from the practice and have a chance to meet other carers in the same position, have some time for themselves and know they are appreciated
