Local councillors voiced support for the Connecting Chapmanslade project following a presentation which was delivered at the Westbury Area Board meeting on Thursday evening.
Connecting Chapmanslade are a group of cycling enthusiasts from the village who are hoping to create a cyclepath which connects the towns of Frome, Westbury and Warminster all via Chapmanslade.
The aim is to utilise existing rights of way and to create a passable, safe route for cyclists avoiding using roads wherever possible and certainly not using the busy A36 or A3098 roads.
Adam Oakley presented the group’s plans and confirmed they have had or will be having discussions with Sustrans, Frome Missing Links, Mendip Council and others to garner further support. Both Councillor Gordon King and Councillor Russell Hawker in attendance at the Area Board meeting voiced support for the plans and encouraged the group to apply to the Area Board for funding should they need it. Support was also voiced by Westbury Town Councillor Ian Cunningham who was also present at the meeting.
