Run Wiltshire Beginners Groups complete sofa-to-5km challenge.

April witnessed the completion of the free 10-week beginners running courses across Pewsey and Tidworth, delivered by Amy Chalk, Wiltshire Council’s Run Activator. The courses generated a good level of weekly attendance from a range of age groups varying from 30-70-year olds all with differing running capabilities.

Beginning on the 14 January and lasting for 10 weeks, The Vale Community Campus and Tidworth Leisure Centre presented the ideal meet location for both courses. Despite being faced with snow, gales, rain and in some instances sunshine, the groups motivation never faltered. The course, designed to allow the group members to run at their own individual paces and regroup to support each other at the same time, ended at week 10 with a 5km challenge, with members running continuously for up to 30 minutes. The groups have bonded over their time together and some great friendships have been made, with a collective motivation to run on a weekly basis now the programme has drawn to a close.

What the Tidworth Group said: “It has been great to be part of a sociable group, I have been attending
the gym for years and nobody really talks very much as they are getting on with their own training, it
has been great to be part of others journeys”
