Kickstart your children’s swimming with intensive courses this summer

Children’s swimming skills can be accelerated this summer with intensive courses at a number of Wiltshire Council swimming pools.

Intensive lessons are offered through each school holiday period and are an ideal way to help children get an introduction to swimming or as a way of boosting confidence and advance the skills of those already enrolled in the council’s swim school programme. Each child enrolled will have access to a daily class throughout the week.

All swimming pools follow the Swim England Learn to Swim pathway which is a national syllabus used to ensure lessons for all ages are delivered to a high and consistent standard.

This summer, a range of courses are being offered across the county including Ducklings, Stages 1-7, Diving, Water Safety and Rookies. Full details of the courses being offered, plus information on how to book can be found: https://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/leisure-swim-school. Information on the individual swim school stages can be found: https://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/leisure-swim-school-stages

Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, Wiltshire Council Cabinet Member for Leisure, said, “We would strongly recommend enrolling children into our intensive swimming courses during the holidays. They have proven to be helpful for the children; whether it’s gaining the confidence to get into the water in the first place or to achieve a skill that they may have been struggling with in their normal weekly lessons.

“Intensive lessons are available for anyone to book into, whether the child is in our regular weekly learn to swim programme, wants to try swimming lessons before committing to regular lessons or might benefit from new skills such as diving or water safety. They even come with the bonus of being a fun, healthy school holiday activity.

“A key mission in our business plan is for Wiltshire to be a place where we stay active, and swimming is a great way to do just that.”

For children who prefer to take part in dryer activities, Lime Kiln Leisure Centre are also offering intensive trampolining and gymnastics lessons over the Summer. Information on these sessions and other activity camps being offered across Wiltshire can be found at https://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/leisure-activities-for-young-people.
