Have you heard about our Active Health Exercise After Stroke Classes?
What is it – Exercise after Stroke is a programme that is delivered across 6 locations in Wiltshire to provide suitable exercise classes for people that have had a stroke. Classes are delivered by a qualified specialist instructor and involve using a variety of equipment to help people build their strength, confidence and mobility, so they are able to carry out day to day tasks more effectively and independently. Each exercise in the class can also be individually adapted for the persons impairments following their stroke. In addition many participants find the social aspect invaluable to hep with their recovery from a stroke.
How to get involved – Anyone that has suffered a stroke and is age 16 or over can ask their GP or physiotherapist if they are appropriate to be referred into the programme. Once the instructor receives the referral from them, they will contact you to arrange a consultation appointment at your nearest leisure centre. Classes take place in Warminster, Melksham, Trowbridge, Salisbury, Chippenham and Marlborough.
Testimonial from a member – “I joined the Exercise after Stroke programme back in September 2011. I thoroughly enjoyed the programme and was able to get fitter and more mobile courtesy of the exercises involved in the class. I was able to make both physical and psychological improvements and I became more mobile, more confident and gave me a more positive outlook on my life. I also thoroughly enjoyed the social aspect that the classes offered. Today in 2019, I have progressed to using the gym at the centre and attend every week and I am very happy with what the Exercise after Stroke programme has done for me” Vic Fielding, age 80
