Businesses encouraged to take part in new Green Homes Grant scheme

Homeowners and landlords can now access funding to pay for the cost of energy saving measures under the new Green Homes Grant scheme and businesses are being encouraged to register their services.

The scheme means homeowners can obtain up to two-thirds of the cost of energy saving measures – up to £5000. Lower-income households could be entitled to claim as much as £10,000 to cover the cost.

Businesses who wish to be accredited under this scheme can simply register with Trust Mark via their website at: https://www.trustmark.org.uk/

The registration process should only take around five working days for businesses who already have a membership of a recognised trade body such as the Federation of Master Builders, the Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency and Building Engineering Services Association, or who are already certified under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme.

Homeowners can begin seeking quotes before the scheme launches at the end of September so the council is advising interested businesses to register promptly. The scheme is national and Wiltshire businesses registering for the scheme helps to secure local jobs and boost the economy.

The scheme supports the council’s Climate Strategy which includes reducing emissions from homes through domestic energy improvements. Home improvements covered by the scheme include insulation of walls, floors and roofs, installation of double or triple glazing to replace single glazing and low-carbon heating. These measures could help families save up to £600 a year on their energy bills.

Cllr Richard Clewer, Cabinet Member for Climate Change, said: “Investing in green initiatives is key to Wiltshire’s and the national recovery. This scheme prepares us for the future, protects our environment and saves money for homeowners through long-term energy savings.

“Building back greener also helps to secure local jobs and supports the council in its ambition for Wiltshire to be carbon-neutral by 2030.”
