Beginners Running groups end with 5km challenge

22nd March 2019, 12:53pm | By Samantha Perry |

This week marks the completion of the 10-week Beginners running course in Pewsey and Tidworth. The courses generated a good level of weekly attendance, of a range of ages from 30-70-year olds, all individuals with varying running capabilities.

The course took place from the week beginning 14th January 2019 and latest for 10 weeks. The Vale Community Campus and Tidworth Leisure Centre presented an ideal meet point for the runners with a 9.15am start time suitable for parents to accommodate the School/nursery run. Over the 10 weeks we have had snow, gales, rain and sunshine and yet the motivation levels of the group were fantastic, seeing them returning each week. The course allowed the group to run at their individual paces and be able to regroup and support each other at the same time.

The groups have really bonded and some great friendships have been made, with a collective motivation to continue to run on a weekly basis.

Thank you for the local support from Pewsey Rugby club and Pewsey Running club for supporting the group.

What the groups said:

Pewsey Group:

“never thought of joining a group, I have so much more confidence in my ability to run as well as joining in other classes, I have noticed my fitness has improved loads I am now swimming 80 lengths at a time”

“I am impressed I have attended every week! I have felt motivated to come each week and being a mum of 2 young children it has been great to have some adult conversation! It hasn’t been easy some weeks but I have found myself getting up and putting on my trainers and doing it, Thank you Amy”

Tidworth Group:

“I had been telling myself that I was going to start the couch to 5km but never really had the motivation to make that step, my father said he was doing the course so I decided to join him, we both completed the 5km and this has given me the motivation to carry on”
