In 2014, UK Government launched the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme (VPRS) which prioritised help for survivors of torture and violence, women and children at risk, and those in need of medical care. Due to the success of this programme, the scheme is being extended to a Global Resettlement Scheme (GRS). Based on similar principles.
The Government work with UNCHR to identify suitable cases and with Wiltshire Council and our partners to ensure the specific needs of these vulnerable individuals are met. Specialist knowledge and skills are used to work with the individuals, their family, community and services to promote independence and achieve a positive outcome for them during their time in the UK.
Wiltshire Council has been a part of the VPRS programme for the past four years to resettle refugees displaced from Syria into the UK. The Refugee Programme Board oversee the work on the delivery of the programme in Wiltshire with a commitment to excellent partnership working and delivering results for customers; supporting the delivery of this work therefore means evidence of strong team working skills and flexibility is essential.
About the role
The role of the Caseworker is to act as the first point of contact for the resettled refugees, providing them with assistance and support to ensure that their issues are resolved and to assist in their transition into UK life. There will be a varied caseload and ensuring families and individuals can access public services and are supported towards independence and integration will be a priority.
