Waste and recycling changes over the Christmas period

Waste and recycling collection dates will change over Christmas and new year.

There will be no collections on Christmas Day (Tuesday 25 December), Boxing Day (Wednesday 26 December) and New Year’s Day (Tuesday 1 January).

There will be catch-up collections on Saturday 29 December, 5 January and 12 January.

Garden waste collections will stop from Monday 24 December for two weeks and restart on Tuesday 8 January. Collections will be one day later than normal during this week.

All collections, including garden waste, return to normal from Monday 14 January 2019.

All household recycling centres will be closed from 1pm on 24 December and all day on 25 and 26 December and 1 January. The centres will open as normal on all other days.

Bridget Wayman, Wiltshire Council cabinet member for waste, said: “We ask that people bear with us as it will be extremely busy for our collections team with a lot more waste to collect than normal. The team will work tirelessly to get the schedule back on track.

“We want everyone to recycle as much as they can, and try to keep waste to a minimum so bins are not filled quite as quickly, although we know that’s tricky at this time of year.”

People who pay to have their garden waste collected can put their real tree out for recycling with their garden waste bin on their first collection date in January, or they can support local charities by paying a small donation for them to collect. This is done via the Just Helping scheme at https://charityxmastreecollection.com/
