Well, we were rather fortunate to manage an ‘in person’ public meeting with residents, community groups and parish council representatives at the 9th December Southern Wiltshire Area Board before covid restrictions around working from home come in on the 13th!
It was lovely to see all there that could be…we couldn’t have picked a more rural site for a wild winters evening – Winterslow Village Hall – and thank you to the committee for their warm hospitality and welcome.
The meeting featured a wide range of topics, from promotion of a new Wiltshire Youth Council, to updates on Community Speed Watch and local policing priorities, to progress on the area board’s work plan around older people, young people, improving communications and acting on the climate change issue. One particular climate change initiative which Councillors especially requested at the meeting, was that the longstanding aspiration to create a new (mainly off road) cycle route from Amesbury – Salisbury via Porton be re-started.
Over £20k of grants were approved for a range of community projects, including a youth project led by The Underground Studios at The Bunker in Harnham, for Hamptworth Croquet Club to partner with DoE pupils at Trafalgar School, new defibrillators in Allington, upgrades to the surfacing of Winterslow’s much loved tennis court and for the Silver Salisbury outreach project.
Well 2021 is nearly done (what a year!). Early in 2022 we have a couple of engagements planned, the dates and details of which will be with you soon. One engagement will certainly be themed around our ec0-friendly villages/climate change priority.
See you on the other side!
