Care Home Volunteers is looking for people to join our team of volunteers in Salisbury, Amesbury, Downton and surrounding areas, to bring joy and companionship to older people living in care homes, especially those who don’t have visits from friends or family. This helps people to keep in touch with the outside world, gives them an opportunity to remember the good times and improves their wellbeing and quality of life. Recent studies have shown that spending as little as one hour a week with individual residents getting to know them, their lives, hobbies and interests can make a huge difference to their wellbeing, and our volunteers often say how rewarding it is to bring such joy and happiness to people’s lives.
Jane, who joined the team two years ago, visits a care home in Salisbury, spending time with several residents, chatting, reading and reminiscing. She says, “I heard about Care Home Volunteers and knew this is just what I wanted to do. A couple of hours a week chatting to residents feels so rewarding, to see the smiles and for me to leave with a smile too. I thoroughly recommend volunteering to anyone who wishes to make a difference to those in need of companionship.”
Volunteers will not be expected to take part in any tasks involving personal care or moving and handling.
