If you enjoy being with people, have a caring empathetic nature and love a good chat, this could be the role for you!
Alzheimer’s Support runs three activities groups, Music and Movement for the Mind and the Memory café which rotate on a Thursday morning in Harnham.
The Memory café is a social occasion where people living with dementia, their carers and families can enjoy socialising and taking part in a range of activities over refreshments. The café offers a chance to find out more about all aspects of living with dementia.
Music helps people living with dementia communicate, express feelings and share moments of joy and remembrance.
Taking part in gentle exercise/ movement is stimulating and can enhance the wellbeing of people in the early to mid-stage of dementia, together with their family carers.
These friendly inclusive groups are led by facilitators who are specialists in their field.
Our volunteers assist the group organiser by setting up the venue, preparing and serving refreshments and tidying away at the end of session. Support to members can take the form of welcoming, engaging in conversations and if needed, supporting to take part in activity.
We offer training in dementia awareness and on-going support in your role.
