Swindon & Cricklade Railway “Behind the Scenes”

Swindon & Cricklade Railway have open “Behind the Scenes” days on Sat 18th & Sun 19th May.
Come along and see what we are doing (and what YOU could do) to help “Preserving Yesterday’s Railway for Tomorrow’s Children”
Ride on a steam train, see the restoration work going on in the Engine Shed at Hayes Knoll Station and in the Vintage Train Project polytunnel in the Blunsdon Station car park.
Find out about volunteering opportunites in all departments, from Operations (Train Drivers, Firemen/Second Men, Guards, Crossing Keepers, Station Masters) to Permanent Way/S&T, who maintain the track and signalling, Building & Works, Loco and Carriage Maintenance & Repair, the Museum, the Restaurant, Gardening and other roles.

For visitors over 18 there will be an opportunity to be a DRIVER FOR A FIVER – for £5 you can drive one of our Heritage Diesel Locos over a short length of the sidings at Hayes Knoll Station. We hope that this might whet the appetite and encourage you to become a volunteer driver in the future (after adequate training and subject to satisfying the medical requirements for Train Crew.
