Curator Purton Museum

24th June 2021, 9:56am | By Marc Read |

Purton Museum is housed on the first floor of the Workmen’s Institute building which was given to the village by Mr James Sadler and opened by the Earl of Shaftesbury in 1880.  The Museum usually opens twice a week, on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings.

The voluntary position of Curator has become vacant and the Purton Historical Society is seeking a person to fill the post which would suit someone who works part-time or who has retired.

The Curator leads a small, enthusiastic committee who plan and assemble exhibitions of local interest or to commemorate national anniversaries.  Applicants would need : good technical skills to manage and care for the collection of artefacts and documents, a talent to display and label objects to a high standard, and the ability to accession and catalogue donated items, prepare reports and applications for accreditation, respond to requests for information from the public, train volunteers and liaise with various authorities.
