Woodborough’s ‘safe route to school’ lives on!

30th July 2020, 1:05pm | By richardrogers |

Woodborough Parish Council has just successfully negotiated a 25 year extension to the lease for a ‘permissive footpath’ that provides a safe pedestrian route to school for children attending Woodborough C of E Primary School. The path was constructed some 8 years ago on the back of a £4000 grant from the Pewsey Area Board. Chairman Steve Napier said “The future of the footpath beyond August this year was in some doubt until the new landowners, Diane and Tim Grant, expressed a wish that the path should remain in existence. We are most grateful to them and indeed, also to the Committee at the Woodborough Club for the continued use of their car park for parent parking. In common with many village schools, the safety of the children arriving and leaving the school is paramount, and this particular path provides an extremely safe route for many of the children. The path is evidence of how an Area Board grant, and various elements of the local community, really can change lives.”

Paul Oatway, Wiltshire County Unitary Councillor for the Pewsey Vale said
“I warmly welcome the positive ongoing initiative by the members of Woodborough Parish Council, the management committee of Woodborough Club, and indeed Mr and Mrs Grant, to continue in making the arrival and departure of children at this lovely village school safe. This has been reinforced further by the support of Wiltshire Council via the Area Board which I had great pleasure in supporting and releasing further funding for the newly constructed footpath close to the school”
