Halloween steaming and spirit story competition

25th October 2018, 8:21pm | By Ros Griffiths |

Our final event of the year on the Crofton site combines a mystical Halloween theme with a story telling competition for all age groups. From 4.00pm to 9.00pm on October the 28th the fiery dragon of our boiler will be making hissing steam to power the clank of our massive engines into the dusk.

There is a competition to write a short story and enter it to be read out on the night. There are wonderful prizes for winners in all age groups of pre-school, primary, secondary and adult classes so put your ghostly thinking caps on and get writing! Story length can be no more than 500 words for pre-school and primary or 1000 words for secondary and adult. To help you get started here is an idea for that all important opening …..

“One dark October night, the engine driver looked out of the window of Pumphouse Cottage. He had extinguished fires and closed up for the night and yet…yes…he could see a light glowing in the boiler house…He stepped outside to the scent of smoke rising from the chimney. Scared and confused, he cautiously made his way to the boiler house, and stepped inside…..” Over to you!

Please email your stories to : elizabethroper74@gmail.com by the 24th October to enter the competition. We are looking forward to reading them!

Full details are on our website: www.croftonbeamengines.org

The Engineman’s Rest Café will be serving freshly prepared food and drinks along with a smoky BBQ.

We very much look forward to seeing you there to enjoy Crofton like you have never seen it before!
