Campaign for Learning – Family Learning Festival

12th May 2017, 11:47am | By Steve |

  • 41% of parents want to know how to help their children with maths.
  • Seven year olds who had been given books at nine months achieved results 20% higher than other children in national English, maths & science tests.
  • One third of parents are worried about helping their child with homework in case they ‘get it wrong’.

In a nutshell:

The Campaign for Learning is campaigning to create an inclusive society in which learning is valued, understood, wanted and widely available to every individual. We want to banish images of dry, dusty studying and promote the feeling of vibrant, relevant learning that can change people’s lives. We want to develop such a hunger for learning that there is a public demand for stimulating, user-friendly learning opportunities that suit everyone’s lifestyle.

What makes this project special:

It’s a national celebration to mark and inspire a love of learning in family life. It takes place in October every year.

Organisations of all types and sizes from schools and children centres, through libraries to museums and galleries put on brilliant and creative events, and showcase ideas and learning opportunities that families can do afterwards. Some Festival events are organised across local areas.

Learning as a family can help us to become confident, lifelong learners with all the benefits that brings – from better health to being happier. Family learning supports children to achieve at school. It can be transformative, helping us to find new passions and interests, and realise our aspirations through further learning.

How you can replicate this project where you live:

  • Establish local need –
  • Talk to Family Learning Festival about planning an event
  • Contact local organisations & invite to take part
  • Look for local sponsors to cover any costs
  • Draw up a festival timetable/guide
  • Promote the event
  • Launch your festival
