Wiltshire Council issues financial reward following successful fly tipping prosecution

24th June 2022, 2:31pm | By Peter Dunford |

Wiltshire Council has rewarded four individual Wiltshire residents with a £100 high street voucher each for their assistance by providing Wiltshire Council’s Environmental Enforcement team with crucial witness statements which aided the recent successful fly tipping prosecution of Mr Corey Carr.

Mr Corey Carr of Melksham appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court on Monday 6 June 2022 and pleaded guilty to four environmental offences and one trading standards offence.

Details of the case can be found here – https://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/news/melksham-resident-prosecuted-for-fly-tipping-offences.

The four individuals have been financially rewarded as part of Wiltshire Council’s ongoing ‘We’re Targeting Flytippers’ campaign. This is the 10th reward the council has issued since the campaign was introduced in 2019 as a way to actively encourage anyone who witnesses fly tipping to help aid fly tipping prosecutions by providing witness statements with the potential of attending court.

Cllr Dr Mark McClelland, Cabinet Member for Waste said “Obtaining witness statements is a crucial part of investigating any waste offences. I would like to thank the four witnesses for their time and assistance in this matter. Without this support by providing us with witness statements, successfully prosecuting the individual could have proved very difficult. We are dedicated in tackling fly tipping and have had several successful prosecutions since we started the WTF campaign.”
