Vital business grants funding closes soon

31st July 2020, 3:01pm | By Peter Dunford |

Businesses in Wiltshire are being urged to apply for vital grant funding before the schemes close on Friday 28 August 2020.

Nearly 7,500 businesses in the county have benefitted from either a £10,000 Small Business Grant, or a £10,000 or £25,000 Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant. This funding, which does not have to be repaid, has offered a lifeline to many small businesses during the coronavirus pandemic.

These grant schemes are still open and eligible businesses are being encouraged to apply online as soon as possible. Applications and any additional information required must be received by 5pm on Monday 24 August 2020 to allow sufficient time for the application to be processed and the funding paid before the grants programme closes.

In addition, a further 450 businesses so far have received £7,000 through the Discretionary Grants Fund. This scheme is now closed to new applications and those applications that have not yet been paid are continuing to be processed.

Philip Whitehead, Leader of Wiltshire Council: said “We have given nearly £89 million to local businesses through the Small Business Grants Fund and the Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grants Fund and over £3 million through the Discretionary Grants Fund. These grants have been vital to our local economy, helping to ensure the survival of shops, cafes, hotels, restaurants and many other businesses.

“We have now reached the final stages of these grant schemes and it is imperative eligible businesses receive the financial support that is available to them before it is too late. If you think you are eligible, please complete the online application form and provide all the supporting documents required as soon as possible or by the 5pm Monday 24 August 2020 deadline.

“After the grants funding closes on Friday 28 August 2020, any unspent grant has to be returned to central government.

“The funding could provide a welcomed injection of cash for you and your business and even better, it does not have to be paid back, so don’t miss out.”
