Welcome to the March edition of the Melksham Community Campus Newsletter.
Construction of the campus commenced this month. Pellikaan Construction started on-site on 1 March.
The team have installed hoarding around the site, so they can safely commence construction works. Several existing structures, including the old football and rugby facilities, have been demolished to make way for the new campus. Groundworks are also well underway.
A gate has been installed at the entrance to the site. Construction traffic will enter the site via this gate. For the duration of the build general access to the site from the Market Place will not be possible. Pedestrian access to the Blue Pool and the Assembly Hall remains unaffected.
There are a number of pedestrian routes that cross the site, these remain open. You will notice a slight diversion to Melk 20. Routes will be clearly signposted for easy navigation.
In the coming month the construction site set-up will be complete with the delivery of the contractor’s site cabins and works continue on preparing the foundations for the building.
Northern boundary works
Works to the northern boundary started earlier this year and will be completed in April. These works include tree works and re-building the stone wall which proved to be a little more complicated than first envisaged.
Before works commenced on-site, an archaeological dig was undertaken. Lots of multi-period artefacts were removed from the site and are currently being analysed. We hope to be able to share more information as these investigations progress.
