Alzheimer’s Support have the unique opportunity to play a significant part in this year’s BBC Music Day which takes place on 21st September 2019.
Music permeates everything that we do for people with dementia and their family carers and we have been invited to ‘supersize’ what we do already and to strive to reach communities we have not reached before – all under the mantle of the power of music for the mind.
Our plan for the day is to reach those groups who come together in the name of music and to have one great big jam session. We would like to attract different communities, different BME groups, cultural groups, singers, choirs, bands, dancers…you name it, we want them! We will book a venue (hopefully be granted a grace & favour in one of our market towns) and deal with the infrastructure. On the day we would like to see/hear a performance from that group, hear what motivates them to play together and the benefits it brings to them. Groups are encouraged to play together and maybe, if we feel brave enough, we will try a piece together in a big jam session. Our Music for the Mind singers will play a huge part of it and lead by example.
I would like to make contact with the various groups in your areas who want to be part of this event. I cannot promise anything, but there is great interest in what we do and, if we pull this off, we may feature across all BBC platforms and media.
I hope you are as excited about this idea as we are and you will be happy to help. Any input from your communities is welcome, please let me know what you think and feel free to pass my email to anyone you think would like to join us!
