Recycling scheme for Wiltshire Air Ambulance needs your help

25th February 2020, 10:05am | By Jill Crooks |

The voluntary group Recycle for Wiltshire Air Ambulance have taken their fundraising past the £25,000-mark – but they need help from the public to keep up with the popularity of the scheme.

The fantastic total comes from the huge array of coffee pods, crisp packets and baby food pouches, amongst other items, that have been recycled across the county.

Recycle for Wiltshire Air Ambulance was originally launched as a Facebook page in 2014 by Lesa Snook and Sam Peters, initially as a small-scale scheme.

What started amongst family and friends, just recycling Tassimo and L’OR coffee pods, plus baby food pouches, soon grew.

Multiple programmes were soon added, including the popular crisp packet scheme, along with pet food pouches and oral care recycling.

Sam and Lesa have recruited volunteers across Wiltshire to act as drop off points and now have micro managers, but to enable the schemes to keep flowing they need more helpers.

Sam says: “The support everyone has shown so far is tremendous and we’ve been able to raise over £2,000 a month for the past year, taking the overall tally of funds raised to date to £25,800, with plenty more in the kitty at Terracycle going towards the next money drop!

“With so many schemes now included in Recycle for Wiltshire Air Ambulance, we need more pairs of hands to help us. We couldn’t have raised such a huge amount without volunteers across the county acting as drop off points and we’re so grateful to everyone who has helped out so far, but we need more.”

Recycle for Wiltshire Air Ambulance are particularly keen for new drop off points in Westbury, Warminster & Marlborough.

The recycling scheme not only raises vital funds for Wiltshire Air Ambulance’s lifesaving service, it also helps the environment.
