Mind Reset

“In all Community Areas in Wiltshire, mental health and wellbeing for young people was identified as a key priority”

‘Mind Reset’ is a project which offers young people needs led one to one coaching, and peer led group workshops about what-ever issues they think are important.

In a nutshell:

Mind Reset is run, and first piloted, in Malmesbury community area in 2015/16. Due to its successful start, it was requested by young people for a second run in the Autumn of 2016, and is set to expand its offer to young people in the Chippenham Community Area in May 2017. So far x100 young people have taken part in this distinct project.

The project runs over a period of around for four to five months, facilitated by a qualified and experienced youth counsellor. The project works closely with schools to help promote the sessions, but young people remain firmly in control as participation in voluntary, and self-referring.

Young people who participate can make use of one to one sessions exploring specific personal issues, or how they approach their life challenges; or they can also take part in group workshops around common issues like exam stress, managing social media, or relationships.

What makes this project special?

Young people’s top priority in all the Community Areas was Mental Health with 67% of young people, and those working with and for young people, across Wiltshire, all consistently stating so. This project puts young people in the driving seat in an accessible way.; anonymous and self-referring, the issues covered are self-determined, and the approach and style of delivery enables participating young people to develop their own self-belief, strategies, and resilience.
