Mentor Volunteers

13th January 2022, 12:01pm | By Becky Brown |

The Youth Adventure Trust is a registered youth development charity providing a programme of outdoor adventure camps and activity days for vulnerable young people from the Swindon and Wiltshire area. On our programme the young people take part in a range of outdoor activities which are designed to increase their resilience, promote self-esteem and help them to develop essential life skills.

The Youth Adventure Trust’s Mentoring Scheme provides additional support for a select number of young people who would benefit from further individualised support, following completion of the main programme.

As a mentor you will be carefully matched with a young person and work with them on a one-to-one basis within their local community. Although individual arrangements will vary, you’ll meet for approximately 2 hours a fortnight, for up to a year, providing them with personalised support to achieve the most positive outcomes.

With the support of the Mentoring Manager, you will work with the young person to identify goals and objectives, and help them work towards these. Whilst each mentee will have varying objectives, all mentors will provide empathy to the challenges faced by the young person and give support, guidance and encouragement throughout the mentoring relationship.

Although beneficial, no previous experience of working with young people is required, as full training will be provided. All we ask is that you’re enthusiastic, reliable and committed to the mentoring relationship.

Our mentors are role models to the vulnerable young people we work with, and therefore should be responsible, resilient, good at communicating and have a desire to help young people.

Time commitment: Although individual arrangements will vary, you’ll meet for approximately 2 hours per fortnight, for up to a year.

The Youth Adventure Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all volunteers to share this commitment. The suitability of all prospective volunteers will be assessed during the recruitment process in line with this commitment.
