Young people considering next steps for their future careers are being invited to an online event to showcase the different recruitment processes in 2022 around Swindon & Wiltshire.
The Swindon and Wiltshire Careers Hub is a collaborative network that brings together schools and colleges with employers and stakeholders on best practices in recruitment processes. The Careers Hub will be hosting a free virtual event for students, teachers and parents / carers with interactive chat from all stakeholders involved on 9th March 2022. The broadcast is an hour long and will run on a loop from 11am to 2pm, and again from 6pm to 7pm.
The free virtual event is for young people (aged 14+). A range of employers will showcase different business recruitment processes to support young people in the ability to adapt to all the variances of recruitment in the world of work like psychometric testing, group assessments, video interviews and more,
This will be an interactive event, giving young people the chance to ask questions directly to employers and their employees to help them have a better understanding of opportunities available.
The event will run on an hour loop with some students having access to it during the school/college day, however, for those unable to do this there will also be a twilight session for parents 6 -7pm. Those who register for the event will be able to access resources and return to the platform at any time for up to 12 months after the event.

Making the right choices at this age can be hard, our students will benefit from this opportunity to gain useful insights from many of our key local businesses.
Wiltshire Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Education and Skills – Cllr Laura Mayes, Wiltshire Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Education and Skills said: “This is a great opportunity for young people to explore ideas for the types of career they would like in the future.
“Hearing from employers and having a glimpse into how this works in practice will provide valuable insight and I’m sure will help shape young people’s thoughts on what they would like to do in the future.”
Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Levelling Up, Communities and Place, Councillor Tim Swinyard, said: “We are informed that today’s students are set to move into jobs and careers that have not yet been created. It has also been widely accepted that tomorrow’s employees will have multiple careers across a long working life. With tremendous advances in automation and artificial intelligence, and unprecedented access to computation and the data it produces, it would be easy to lose sight of the traditional human skills that employers will be on the lookout for. It is as important as ever that our young people are able to engage and communicate, work collaboratively, think strategically and build creatively.
“Initiatives that help our young people make informed decisions about learning, training and work will ensure that they have a head start on the path to what we all wish for them – a fulfilling and happy working life, whatever they chose to do.”
