Will you Be Involved?

19th August 2019, 9:55am | By Ros Griffiths |

Be Involved is an initiative that enables employers to support the employability of our young people and the future workforce.

By signing up, you will join other businesses and organisations on a directory of people who pledge to work together, around the following key areas across the county: supporting local schools, supporting those with barriers to work, offering apprenticeships, traineeships and supported internships.

Be Involved is a Work Wiltshire initiative which is run by Wiltshire Council. Be Involved means your business can support the residents of Wiltshire and inspire a future workforce. You will also have the chance to raise your profile and highlight the great work you are doing within the community through case studies and promotion via Twitter and the Work Wiltshire website.

KP Bodyshop and Garage signed up to Be Involved and said: “We run Youth Project workshops on Saturdays where young people can learn the mechanical trade. We aim to keep kids off the streets working with those between the ages of 14 – 18 years, using their love of cars to inspire and educate them.

“Since we started running the workshops last year, two young people have entered apprenticeships, three are on full time courses at Wiltshire College and one also comes back to us to support the new intern. Our current group compromises of four boys and four girls, which is great to see an even split, three of the four girls are home educated, so this gives them a chance to build upon their social skills which they may miss out on not being in school.”

You can read their full interview on Work Wiltshire news page.

When you sign up to the initiative, a member of our Employment and Skills service will be in contact to discuss what support your business is interested in. We will then contact you when opportunities arise that you have registered an interest in, and we will also check in with you from time to time to see how things are going.

If you would like to Be Involved, please visit Work Wiltshire or contact us at workwilts@wiltshire.gov.uk. If you are a garage in the Trowbridge area that would be interested in running a similar programme as KP Bodyshop and Garage, please contact the Community Engagement Manager, Liam Cripps – liam.cripps@wiltshire.gov.uk.
