Monkton Park Community Volunteer Group

25th April 2020, 8:26pm | By Jo Parsons |

We are a group of volunteers based in Monkton Park, who came together via a Community Facebook page to offer our neighbours help and support throughout the Covid-19 crisis.  We have named volunteers for each road on the estate, and so far, our services have included:

Food shopping

Prescription Collection

Pet Supplies

Hot Meals

Regular phone calls

Reassurance

We have also started a book exchange based at the shop on the estate, and decorated our windows with rainbows throughout March, and Easter pictures throughout April.  As well as this we have been able to exchange toys, clothes and plants etc.  Whilst most of the people requiring help have been older, or those with medical conditions, we have also been able to help single parents who have difficulty in getting to the shop or chemist.

The feedback from the community has been brilliant, isolated patients have been really grateful and most importantly feel reassured.  We have also had lovely feedback from relatives who have contacted us – they would normally visit or provide for their older relatives, but are unable to.

It really has made us all realise how lucky we are to live in such a friendly and welcoming place.

If you know anyone who would benefit from our help, please contact us via our e-mail at monktonparkcommunity@gmail.com or call 07753 287442, to be put in contact with the named volunteers.
