A Wiltshire apprentice is sharing her story in advance of a national campaign which launches next week.
Michaela Kalupa is an apprentice administrator with Chippenham-based renewable energy company Good Energy.
She is lending her support to National Apprenticeship Week which runs from 6th-12th February.
Michaela, aged 23, said: “I wanted to pursue a career in HR but it can be difficult without experience, so I decided an apprenticeship would give me all the skills I need while also gaining valuable insight into the workplace.
“I’d already completed a business administration apprenticeship in the social care sector when I saw the Good Energy role, and I was really drawn to its values.”
Michaela joined in 2021 and has become a valued colleague, working across both the People team and the Talent & Development team at their Monkton Park offices.
She also studies for a Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) Level 3 apprenticeship.
Good Energy provides time for her to study for an afternoon each week, as well as allowing her to reclaim the hours spent at evening classes and finding new ways to give her projects and tasks which allow her to put her learning into practice.
Michaela added: “Good Energy have been really supportive. I couldn’t have asked for a better employer, and I’m able to earn money while also gaining a new qualification.
“I’ve learned so much already, and it’s great to be part of a purpose-driven business which is making such a huge difference to our planet.”
Good Energy people partner Hannah Biffen is her line manager in the People team.
Hannah said: “Michaela has become an invaluable colleague.
“She is professional, proactive and self-driven and it’s been rewarding to see her grow and build her confidence, using the skills she learns from her college course as well as from her day-to-day role.
“She has flourished so much and is a true asset to the business.”
Good Energy head of talent and development Laura Yerburgh is her line manager in the Talent and Development team.
Laura said: “Michaela has played a key role in improving the employee ‘onboarding’ experience when they first join and using digital content to support learning.
“She’s improved accessibility and made our intranet pages much more engaging and straightforward, as well as recording short demonstrations and ‘how-to’ guides
“It’s been fantastic to see her gain so many new skills and make such a positive impact.”
