Cotswold Voluntary Wardens Avon Valley District GUIDED WALKS IN THE SOUTHERN COTSWOLDS JULY 2022

MONDAY 4TH JULY – Start: 10:00 am 3 CRESCENTS TO VICTORIA PARK

Difficulty: MODERATE Duration: 3 HOURS Distance: 5.5 MILES Start point: LANSDOWN P AND R. OS REF ST 732681 A linear walk taking the bus back from Milsom Street. Views into valleys around Bath descending to Charlcombe Church, across East Bath, steep descent to Perfect View, across to Camden Crescent, short climb to Lansdown Crescent, across to Victoria Park ending at Queen Square.

Leaders: John Walker and Hugh Lowe.

TUESDAY 5TH JULY – Start: 10.00 am COLERNE TUESDAY TRAMP

Difficulty: MODERATE Duration: 3 HOURS Distance:  5 MILES Start point: FOX AND HOUNDS, COLERNE. OS REf. ST 818711 A walk around the various footpaths of Colerne. Bring a mid-morning Munchie. Park at pub or adjacent Constitutional Club. Unsuitable for pushchairs.

Leaders: Robert Brain, Sid Gould, Peter Bird, Robert Herbert, David Wright.

SATURDAY 9th JULY – Start: 10:00 am COTSWOLD WALLS

Difficulty: MODERATE Duration: 5 HOURS Distance: 8.5 MILES Start point: SWINEFORD PICNIC AREA [SIGNPOSTED ON A 431]. OS REF. ST 691692 A Circular walk taking in North Stoke, Pipley Wood, Hanging Hill, Upton Cheney and Bitton. Note walls rebuilt by the Wardens. Unsuitable for pushchairs. Leaders: Gwyneth Littlejohn and Rob Morley.

TUESDAY 19TH JULY – Start: 10:00 am BOX TRAMP

Difficulty: MODERATE Duration: 3 HOURS Distance: 5 MILES Start Point: BOX PARISH RECREATION GROUND CAR PARK. OS REF. ST 824687. A walk around the footpaths of Box. Bring a drink and mid-morning snack. Parking by the community sports field. Unsuitable for pushchairs.

FRIDAY 29TH JULY – Start: 10.00 am PROSPECT STILE FROM SWINEFORD

Difficulty: MODERATE Duration: 2.5 HOURS Distance: 6 MILES Start point: SWINEFORD PICNIC SITE. OS REF. ST 691692.  We climb to North Stoke and proceed East to Prospect Stile, joining Cotswold Way we cross Lansdown Golf Course and drop down to Upton Cheney and picnic site. Bring mid-morning snack. Leader:  Keith Rawlings.

SATURDAY 30TH JULY – Start: 10:00 am BATHSCAPE CIRCUIT OF BATH – Bathampton to Odd Down P & R

Difficulty: MODERATE Duration: 5 HOURS Distance: 9.5 MILES Start Point: BATHEASTON CAR PARK, NEAR PUBLIC TOILETS OS REF. ST 779674. Booking is essential at  www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/circuit-of-bath-guided-walk-2-tickets-267653126707 This second leg of the circuit goes from Batheaston with a stroll along the Kennet and Avon canal to Dundas Aqueduct. Stop here for lunch then we follow Midford Brook and Somersetshire Coal canal and climb up to Millennium View over Southern Bathscape. Leaders: Nicole Daw and Steve Holbrow.  

 

Warden leaders will take all reasonable care and precautions, but each walker is ultimately responsible for their own safety and for determining their capability to complete the chosen walk. Only assistance dogs are allowed on these walks. All walks by the Voluntary Wardens are FREE OF CHARGE however donations are welcome and help us to take care of the countryside.
