Work on the A365 Box Fiveways Junction begins in June

20th May 2022, 2:45pm | By Ros Griffiths |

Wiltshire Council is undertaking essential work to refurbish and upgrade the traffic signals on the A365/B3109 Box Fiveways junction, from 13 June to 1 July 2022.

The work will see the traffic signals upgraded with the latest technology, which will allow for remote monitoring and adjustments to the signal timings to effectively manage traffic flows. At the same time, the streetlights in the area will be upgraded to LEDs, the junction area will be resurfaced, and new road markings and road studs will be installed on the 5 roads that adjoin the junction located between Bradford on Avon and Corsham, Melksham and Box, and the Kingsdown Road.

The Kingsdown Road will be closed for the duration of the scheme 13 June to 1 July and a signed diversion route will be in place. The remainder of the junction operates under 4-way temporary traffic lights to ensure the safety of the contractor and highway users alike.

Night-time road closures of the whole junction area will be in operation for the resurfacing work, people should expect delays and are advised to follow the signed diversion routes on the A365, B3109 and C48 Kingsdown Road.

Cllr Dr Mark McClelland, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “We apologise for any inconvenience or delays caused by these works, but this is an essential upgrade to the traffic lights, the current signals have been in place for more than 20 years and are no longer fit for purpose. Maintaining equipment of this age is becoming increasingly difficult.

“Resurfacing the road and installing LED street lighting at the same time makes good sense and is good use of our resources. We are making the road safer for all users and avoiding the need for further closures in future years, helping to minimise disruption to nearby residents and highway users.

“We are committed to investing in Wiltshire’s roads, and this upgrade project is part of our £22.9m programme of works this financial year.”
