The Co-op Community Well Being Index

The Co-op actively engages with local communities and has supported the creation of an online data tool that provides local insight into wellbeing. The resulting Community Wellbeing Index (CWI) is the first measure of wellbeing at a local level covering all of the UK. The Index covers over 50 different wellbeing related indicators and gives an insight into what’s important to people in a local community, from the quality of education, housing affordability, and public transport to the amount of green space and the number of community centres in an area. Data has been gathered from over 28,000 communities across the UK, to understand how they score across these and many other wellbeing measures, including the views and opinions of Co-op customers and members.

This data gives a perspective and insight into the strengths of, and challenges facing communities across the UK, encouraging action on the issues that are most critical to help drive development.

The Co-op Foundation is looking for young co-operators aged 13-22 to help build our national 2022 Lonely Not Alone campaign.
