Home Visiting Volunteers

Home-Start South Wiltshire are looking for home visiting volunteers.

“There is always one moment in childhood when the door opens and lets the future in “(Deepak Chopra)

Jane is a young Mum who has just had her third baby. She has no family or friends nearby and is feeling lonely, exhausted and overwhelmed.
She would like support from another parent, especially from someone with time to listen.

Could you support Jane and open the door for a child in your community?

As a Home-Start South Wiltshire volunteer you will support a family by visiting them at home for around two hours, once a week. How you help is really down to the family. Volunteers support parents as they learn to cope, improve their confidence and build better lives for their children. Simple things make a big difference: listening, getting out of the house, or helping sort a problem a parent can’t face alone.

Across the UK thousands of Home-Start volunteers visit families at home each week, supporting parents in situations as diverse as isolation, bereavement, multiple births, illness, disability or who are just finding parenting a struggle. They provide non-judgmental practical and emotional support and help build the family’s confidence and ability to cope. Home-Start runs more services and has more volunteers supporting more families than any other family support charity in the UK.

If you have 2-3 hours a week to spare are a parent or have parenting experience why not enquire about volunteering today!

Home-Start South Wiltshire provides a high quality service for families living in the former Salisbury District Council Area from Larkhill in the north to Downton in the south, from Mere in the west to Whiteparish in the east.

We support families with at least one child under the age of 5 through our dedicated home-visiting volunteers. Volunteers support local families facing a variety of difficulties, including loneliness and isolation; ill health; post-natal depression; disabilities; bereavement; relationship difficulties; lone-parenting and coping with several pre-school children. Our aim is to give children the best possible start in life by helping parents to manage daily life through strengthening relationships and widening their links within their local community.

The Home-Start model offers one-to-one support and friendship to other parents through volunteer home visiting, family and specialist groups and social activities.

Our Scheme is run by a Board of Trustees, who oversee our activities, providing strategic, funding and governance advice.

Volunteers are expected to visit a family for 2-3 hrs each week. It is very important that they are reliable and available throughout the year. Full training will be given and travel expenses paid. We ask our volunteers to commit to volunteering for two years.
