Afternoon Tea Delivery a great success in Amesbury

4th May 2021, 7:47am | By Jacqui |

On Saturday 10th April some fifty older people in Amesbury and surrounding villages received a delicious afternoon tea delivered to their home by Amesbury volunteers via the Silver Salisbury Group.  People were delighted at the unexpected treat and fed back to us

“A very big thank you for the afternoon tea that was delivered. What a lovely surprise. It is very much appreciated, not only for the delightful treat but because it made me feel that I wasn’t alone in my role as carer”

“Thank you for the delicious and generous cream tea today: I have enough for my supper!   It was a wonderful idea and treat at this time.”

We were able to deliver these teas due to the wonderful volunteers in Amesbury and surrounds who baked scones, cakes and pastries, collected the bags from The Amesbury Visitor Centre and delivered them to people’s front doors.  Many many thanks to the wonderful volunteers and also to Amesbury Tesco Community Champion and Deb and Dave at Kingman’s Butchers in the High Street.

This initiative was supported by Amesbury Area Board as part of the Group’s work in developing the programme of activities including Amesbury, planned for the autumn in celebration of International Older People’s Day October 1st.  We hope that by then it will be safe to have group events for older people to get out and about, renew old friendships and make new ones.

The photos show the packed tea bags ready for collection and their contents. Information about the work of the Group can be seen on www.silversalisbury.co.uk where the autumn programme with an Amesbury section will be posted in due course.
